How do you connect a refrigerator water line to a washing machine spigot?

We moved into a very old rental and there is no water line for the fridge. Fortunately, our washing machine had to be moved to the basement, and the washer/dryer opening is perfect for our large french door fridge to fit, with hot and cold water spigots right in the wall.

What do I need and how do I connect the standard washing machine cold water spigot to the refrigerator line so that we have filtered water and a working ice maker? We are in the country and have a Lowe’s and Wal-Mart in town.

You need to get the line kit for an ice maker, then you will have to perforate the cold water line to attach it. You could add a small filter to the connection point for the ice maker.

Those connections are pretty standard. There are probably adapters available. I’d be worried about detergent backing up into your refrigerator line. I’d do everything I could to take it from the sink cold supply (from under the sink).
