Refrigerator Water Filter

I have a Whirlpool stainless steel refrigerator and I replaced the water filter about 8 months ago, but I’m unable to remove the water filter since the cap of the filter has come out. Any suggestions as to how I can remove the filter?

the wire that connects filter and refrigerator is disconnected so I had to shut off the valve to stop the flooding. Does water have to do anything with cooling? or freezing?

My dad took out a refrigerator replacement water filter by Aqua Fresh with WF285 on it. It i is suppose to be compatible with whirlpool 4396508. However, the insertion parts on both in look different and he says the 4396508 does not fit properly, not matter what angle he inserts it in or how he turns it. Is there a different one that he should get, or is he he missing a step in the installation process?

will not come out but the ice does, I changed the filter and it still doesnt work, any ideas on the problem here?

I have a relatively new refrigerator, the water and ice dispenser won’t work… The ice dispeser won’t work at all. The water dispenser work sometimes only… We just changed the filter, but that did not help much..Thanks in advance…

We have a Kenmore side by side with water/ice –

Use a Whirlpool filter (exactly the same except less per filter). Changed the filter in August, the indicator light is already red and saying it needs to be changed. We do drink a lot of water and use ice.

The filter instructions however say change every six months which would give me 2 more months of usage on the existing filter.

Does anyone else use the filters longer than the refrigerator timers indicate?

We had our Kenmore refrigerator for a less than a year and some black/brown clump plopped out into my wife’s glass. We called Sears and after showing them more of the dirty water (what looked like small black feces), they told us that they saw nothing and would not flush the system or repair it…that it was a liability. I did not see the same in my tap water and even removed the filter and still had the same problem. The water company said that it was probably something (an insect) that crawled into the fridge while it was in a warehouse somewhere and was just now coming out. He even went on to say that there was probably enough bacteria to make us sick…I had off and on diarrhea and both sons had strep throat and ear infections 3 times during the year.
Sears refuses to help in any way unless we can identify this…even after looking at the pictures.

Can anyone help identify this or tell me what it is? I have pictures that I would be glad to email anyone if you can help.

It was about the size of a fingernail (slimy and soft)…these pics are a few weeks after and it’s almost a mucus. The others have black specs like the size of a tip on a lead pencil.

I just got a Whirlpool 21.7 ED2GVEXVD (http://bit.ly/93Nkrq) yesterday and I connected the water
line but the water dispensder doesn’t work. It makes no sound when I hit the button, but the ice
dispenser makes the noise…just its still making ice. But whats wrong with the water dispenser?
No noise and no dispensing? The water filter is in and and everything is connected I believe.
I have a replacement coming tomorrow but I want to try and fix the problem if i can.

I have a water filter in my GE Profile refrigerator that I use for drinking water. I don’t want to invest in a whole house filter yet, but I am concerned that my dishes (even with Jet Dry) are left with calcium/mineral residue. Does anyone have any recommendations for some "in-line" style filter I could probably hook up to the hot-water line going to my dishwasher? Maybe this way I can have cleaner looking dishes and maybe in the future I will tackle a whole house filter down the road…

I have had the fridge since August 2008 and the water dispenser worked for a brief period of time, but water has not come from it in a really long time. I can occasionally get a drip or two from it if the ice dispenser is going at the exact same moment. Is this an issue with the water filter or something that I should get someone to service?

I know some websites say that Kenmore water filters are at the bottom, in the grill, but I can clearly see that mine has the water filter on the inside of the fridge, under the top.
last question, are filters easy to change??

I use the PUR filters in my refrigerator and on my kitchen tap for water. The indicator lights will change from green to red in 45-60 days after a filter replacement, but the water will keep flowing for another 60-90 days before the filter completely clogs up, and then I have to replace the filter. During the period when the light is red, is the water still being purified? My guess is that it is.

I use a similar filter system when I go hiking, and the instruction manual states that the filter will only output clean filtered water and can be used up until it is completely clogged. But the data on the home filters only say to replace the filter immediately after the light goes red. I think they just want to sell more filters.

It starting to bother me, I just bought a water filter for my whirlpool refrigerator from Amazon. They send me the retail box and everything inside of it. But the retail box isn’t seal or anything (just open, no plastic or tape or anything), so I am left to wonder if the water filter is even brand new. Is the box in local store the same as the one I just bought from Amazon?

I know the filter is the same model. The connections were all the same, it fits in place properly, but it leaks when we try to use the water dispenser. The ice machine is unaffected. It’s just a small leak for now, but still enough to fix before it gets worse. I’ve been looking around a bit, and it sounds like a lot of people have issues with the water inlet valve, could that be the problem? I’m just a little confused because the only time it leaks is when we use the water dispenser. Thanks for the help

I live in a place where the tap water is not safe to drink. I have boiled it and haven’t had any sicknesses. However, I have found sediment floating in my water and I would rather not. I have purchased a filter and plan to boil, cool, and pour water into the filter. My friend says you must first filter, then boil. I don’t know which provides cleaner water, but I would prefer my method since I can put the filtering unit in the refrigerator to chill the water. Am I a fool? Must I filter first?

i have a crested gecko and people say that you need to use bottled water but i can’t tell is water you get from the refrigerator (not bottled you push it against the button and water comes out) is it bad??? i use it he doesn’t seem to have a problem with it but just to be on the safe side

I just recently bought a new Brita water filter and I put it on the counter at room temperature instead of the refrigerator. I want to know if the filtration will be the same as if you were to put it in the refrigerator. Hope my question makes sense…Thanks for your answers in advance.

I have an external water filter and do not need these costly filters. Also the water flow through the filter is very slow.

Water filter pitchers tell you when to replace as do refrigerators with filtered water. Is this not another ploy by manufacturers to get you to buy. One needs less laundry detergent than indicated on the bottle/box.

My water dispenser does not work on my GE Profile refrigerator. The ice works fine. I have replaced the water filter and that didn’t work. I’ve heard the lines could be frozen but I have no idea where to look. Any ideas?
